Review

I must say that this is one of the most "interesting" worship CD's that I have heard in a long time. "Sunday Morning Service" is touted as an explosive and anointed album, full of enthusiasm and sincerity, encompassing every "Order of Service." I must say that there is certainly a lot of energy and enthusiasm in this project. It is a live recording of a worship service complete with communion, offering, some spoken words and lots and lots of music. The musicality of this project is extraordinary. The full band, complete with an amazing horn section, is incredibly tight, and fully supports the mass gospel choir that sings all of these songs.

Almost all of the songs on this CD are written to lend themselves very much to the gospel choir. Some of the songs have a leader and choir "answers back" with a lyrical line, but there are also many songs that are just sung by the choir.

Two songs that I felt were songs that I could potentially use with the congregation that I lead are, "Precious Blood" and "Down At The Altar". "Precious Blood" is a very nice soft communion song that would work well to set up communion. The song "Down At The Altar" is a passionate call for people to come to that altar to meet with God. Again, there is a lot of repeating of the same lyric, but I don't think that would take away from using the song as a backdrop during an altar call.

Overall, if you a person that uses a lot of Chris Tomlin, Matt Redman, kind of songs, this CD probably won't resonate too well with you. However, if you are a person that does a lot of Kirk Franklin and Alvin Slaughter kind of songs with more of a gospel feel, this will more than likely be right up your alley. It is definitely a well crafted, passionate expression by Joe Pace and the choir that he leads.
