Maranatha Music Eden's Bridge Eden's Bridge. The name evokes a peaceful and tranquil sense, but in just a few short years, siblings Richard and Sarah Lacy, along with band mates from the North of England, have become a best-selling worship artist worldwide, creating a sound that is inescapably their own.
Review
I must admit that sometime in the late-nineties I became a Celtic music snob. I erroneously decided that everything labeled Celtic music/worship was just a rip off of that wildly popular song from the movie "Titanic." To me modern Celtic music was no longer an art form in the tradition of Clannad and Iona, but it seemed to have become more of a gimmicky novelty. So, to my loss, I eventually closed my ears to this beautiful music. But "New Celtic Worship" by Eden's Bridge has brought me back to a new appreciation and love for Celtic worship music.
"New Celtic Worship" is a spectacular offering of serene, joyous worship music from one of Celtic Music's premiere music groups. While you can't help admiring the beauty of the music and the masterful musicianship, there is no missing that worship is the priority on this project. Take for instance these words from the opening track "King of All Of Me":
"Love has brought me here again/ Kneeling at Your cross, my Friend/ Search my heart that you might be/The King of all sufficiency/ The King of all of me"
The nice thing about these songs is that you could easily adapt most of them for use in your local church, even if your team isn't equipped to pull off a Celtic feel. At the heart of this CD is straight up, new solid worship songs irrespective of music styles.
A quick note about this CD for keyboard players; "New Celtic Worship" is somewhat of a case study in how you can creatively apply keyboard sounds, specifically how to tastefully add ambience with old analog keyboard sounds and a little reverb or delay. "Breath and Presence" is a brilliant example of this innovative application of keyboards. There are also notable moments with an old Yamaha electric grand piano on the tracks "Hear My Prayer" and "Lay Me Down."
Beyond the pipes, flutes, whistles, various drums, and ambient keyboard washes that would make Brian Eno jealous, there lies a calm, honest, organic expression of worship in "New Celtic Worship." Eden's Bridge invites us into a focused place of simple yet deep worship of the Creator. The stunning beauty of the music reflects the truth of the message of worship, producing a refreshingly balanced worship experience.
