If you’re not familiar with the Grammy Award-winning music of 24 year-old Rebecca St. James, don’t let that stop you from picking up her newest release. Probably best known for recording songs of the contemporary Christian Music variety, St. James has had a fairly successful career alongside other female vocalists like Susan Ashton, Kim Hill, and Margaret Becker. St. James was recently selected to join the Presidential Prayer Team, an effort to mobilize 2.8 million people to commit to daily prayer for our Nation and our President, due to “her outstanding contributions and positive influence on young Americans.”.

Recently, St. James has discovered a love for worship, and “Worship God” is a great declaration of her heart for doing just that. Surprisingly, “Worship God” contains some great progressive songs of worship, many of them penned by St. James herself. Rebecca’s song “Lamb Of God” is one of the strongest on this CD and stands tall alongside those written by the likes of Redman, Barnett and Baloche. Equally impressive is the song “Omega.” Buried at track 12 as a bonus cut, this song displays a truly cutting edge side of St. James that would be interesting to hear explored in future releases. Of course, the requisite covers of “God Of Wonders”, “Better Is One Day” and “Breathe” all grace this smartly executed set of worship songs.

However, St. James herself is quite the songwriter and the five songs penned by her prove she has a strong commitment to worship God with all her heart. The songs here shine with a pure Pop Worship sparkle that will have even the most jaded listener singing, dancing and worshipping along. If anything, those who no the least about St. James previous musical efforts will probably enjoy the songs contained here the most. Prepare to be pleasantly surprised at this young girl’s talent for singing and writing great songs of worship.
